Cities and regions have the opportunity to see the COVID-19 crisis as a wake-up call to move to more sustainable living environments. Transitioning to a circular economy (CE) can reduce the vulnerability of economic and social systems.

This transition requires multi-level governance and actors: local and regional authorities (LRAs) play a key role in this context. Many LRAs are pioneers in the field of circularity and represent a reservoir of best practices, while many others still face different kinds of barriers.

The 16^th meeting of the Technical Platform for Cooperation on the Environment, jointly run by Commission's DG ENV and CoR, aims to:

• provide a forum for policy makers and stakeholders to exchange ideas on how can LRAs benefit from the transition to the circular economy in the post-crisis recovery context
• enable the sharing of best practices
• contribute to identify the barriers local and regional levels face in transitioning to the CE
• discuss the tools and initiatives at EU level aimed to support LRAs in the transition to a CE, as well as identify the gaps.
