Description

Tarkett, a worldwide leader of innovative flooring and sports surface solutions offering a wide range of products including vinyl, linoleum, carpet, rubber, wood, laminate, synthetic turf and athletic tracks, has introduced ReStart®, a take-back programme in Europe and North America. The programme helps customers to manage their flooring waste from job sites, collecting off-cut and used vinyl, linoleum and carpet flooring, not only its own flooring but also flooring from its competitors and customers. After collection, Tarkett sorts and selects flooring that can be used as a source of quality raw materials in its own production process.

ReStart® programme starts with the collection of installation waste and end-of-use flooring for recycling. Once sorted, these used floors are processed using unique technologies that can remove the adhesive when needed and separate the components. Each component can then be reused to make a new floor covering. This is how Tarkett closes the loop.

  • Tarkett started recycling vinyl floors production waste in Sweden in 1957.
  • Eight recycling centres are now dedicated to vinyl, linoleum and carpet recycling around the world.
  • 112 000 tonnes of post-installation and post-use floor coverings were collected through ReStart® from 2010 to 2021 in Europe, Brazil and North America.
  • ReStart® take-back and recycling programme is deployed in 16 countries in Europe.
  • ReStart® collection will contribute to Tarkett’s goal, to increase the percentage of recycled materials as raw materials (by volume) to 30 %, by 2030, compared to 15 % in 2021.
  • Green building labels: Recycled materials are a positive indicator when aiming for green building certification, like LEED, WELL and BREEAM.
