Description

Tarkett is a global leader in innovative flooring and sports surface solutions, offering a wide range of products including vinyl, linoleum, carpet, rubber, wood, laminate, synthetic turf and athletic tracks.

It operates the ReStart® take-back programme: working with local companies, they take away what's left when you install new flooring along with the old vinyl, linoleum and carpet.

After collection, Tarkett sorts and selects flooring that can be used as a source of raw materials for its production process. The used flooring is then processed using unique technologies that can remove any adhesive and separate the components. Each component can then be reused to make new flooring.

They have developed pioneering techniques for cleaning, shredding and recycling previously unusable glued post-use homogeneous vinyl (post-2011).

Main activity field
Main results
  • Tarkett started recycling vinyl floors production waste in Sweden in 1957.
  • 112 000 tonnes of post-installation and post-use floor coverings were collected through ReStart® from 2010 to 2021 in Europe, Brazil and North America.
  • ReStart® collection will contribute to Tarkett’s goal of increasing the percentage of recycled materials as raw materials (by volume) to 30 %, by 2030, compared to 15 % in 2021.
  • Green building labels: Recycled materials are a positive indicator when aiming for green building certification, like LEED, WELL and BREEAM.
