Description

Industrial symbiosis in textiles!

Maiano Re-Lab is the industrial R&D division of Manifattura Maiano SpA and specialises in developing innovative circular and textile solutions for industries and brands. They use natural, synthetic and high tech textiles.

Maiano Re-Lab comes up with sustainable industrial applications for textile scraps from mass-produced consumer goods. This initiative establishes synergies between industrial sectors, minimising waste and promoting sustainability within the industry.

They use pre-consumer fabric scraps (for instance from furnishing supply chains), byproducts from the fashion supply chain and recycled material from polyester supply chains (such as recycled fibres from PET containers) as a secondary raw material.

Maiano Re-Lab emphasises industrial symbiosis, establishing partnerships with businesses which bring fabric scraps (a minimum of 2000 kg) and want them used to make specific products. Maiano Re-Lab produces a design, delivers the prototype and once both parties are in agreement, starts production.

This initiative bridges the gap between regenerated fibres and the final industrial product.

Main activity field
Main results
  • The regenerated fibres are used to make either semi-finished products such as felts, wadding and panels (acoustic, thermal or thermoformable) or finished products (acoustic panels, thermoacoustic insulation, packaging, footwear, interior design, objects).
  • Maiano Re-Lab supports their customers throughout the circular process.
  • Their products comply with the Global Recycled Standard covering recycled content for both finished and intermediate products.
