Description

300 billion cigarette stubs are casually chucked away every year. Given that a single stub can pollute up to 500 litres of water, that is quite the environmental problem.

Countless chemical components in cigarette filters generate residual pollution – and they are the main type of waste found on beaches, and they can take over a decade to break down…

MéGO! is a B2B operator working with businesses, associations and public authorities. It offers a comprehensive service for collecting and recycling cigarette stubs. The company's goal is to make people aware of the risks involved in throwing cigarette stubs away and to encourage the shift towards stub-free towns and natural areas.

The company has set up a smooth process: they place the ashtray and marketing tools (signposts, posters). Then they collect the stubs, sort them and finally recycle them at their hazardous waste treatment plant in Bourg-Blanc. The cigarette stubs are recycled into secondary raw plastic that can be used to manufacture new objects, such as ashtrays and street furniture.

Using this service (currently available in France) also increases carbon footprint awareness and the virtues of recycling among staff and consumers of the businesses and organisations making use of MéGO!'s solution.

Main results

MéGO! produces a range of street furniture from the plastic produced from cigarette stubs, thereby helping to eliminate a serious environment threat and promote the circular economy.
