When a battery is removed from an electric vehicle, there is currently no standardised European transaction infrastructure connecting sellers with potential buyers. Batteries are often traded through fragmented channels with limited information about condition, origin, regulatory status and intended use. This creates barriers to reuse and can result in batteries being prematurely sent for recycling despite having significant useful life remaining.

REBATTEX, the European Exchange for Second-Life EV Batteries, addresses this gap by providing a digital transaction infrastructure specifically designed for second-life EV batteries. The platform connects dismantlers, repair workshops, insurers and other battery owners with professional buyers and second-life applications across Europe.

Each transaction can combine verified diagnostics and State of Health data with battery identification, traceability, compliance documentation, transport information, secure payment and warranty. Integration with dismantler management systems can transfer existing battery data and images directly into REBATTEX, reducing the administrative work required to bring batteries into the circular market.

By standardising the information and processes required for second-life use, REBATTEX aims to make battery reuse safer, simpler and commercially scalable across Europe.
