Description

Naturalmat is an SME that makes organic, natural mattresses, toppers and bedding, using materials that are biodegradable or recyclable.

The company is run along circular lines:

  • mattresses have a 10-year guarantee,
  • when a Naturalmat mattress reaches the end of its life, their Mattress for Life InitiativeTM gives owners the option to have it refurbished (refilled and recovered), recycled or donated if it's still usable,
  • the company recovers materials from recycled mattresses and loops them back into the production process or directs them elsewhere,
  • any mattresses (48 to date) which are returned in good condition are sold at a discount,
  • the company uses as little packaging as possible: their nursery mattresses are wrapped in compostable packaging, their pillows and duvets are wrapped in reusable bags and their large items are delivered in reusable bags,
  • fabric offcuts are sold on at a discount and offcuts from wool mattress filling is looped back into the production process,
  • their coir sheets are made from coconut husks, an agricultural byproduct,
  • they work with the Cotton Lives OnTM recycling programme: this programme collects old cotton products and Naturalmat collaborated with them to develop a mattress filled with recycled cotton and denim. These mattresses are then donated to charities.
