CLOTH’EL: Giving hotel textiles a second life through design and local craftsmanship
CLOTH’EL is a Budapest-based design brand that transforms used hotel textiles into clothing, accessories, home textiles and bespoke collections for hospitality partners and other businesses.
Hotels and textile service providers retire bed linen, towels and curtains when they no longer meet requirements. However, usable sections of these textiles can still provide material for new products. CLOTH’EL works with these existing fabrics, adapting designs to their characteristics and the quantities available.
The approach connects hospitality partners, designers and small workshops in Hungary. Products range from shirts and bags to cosmetic accessories and hotel merchandise. Bespoke collaborations also enable hotels to have their own textiles transformed into items linked to their identity and story.
One example is the Torridon collection, made from old curtain fabrics from The Torridon hotel in Scotland. The fabrics were transformed into clothing and accessories, preserving a tangible connection to the hotel.
By combining textile sourcing, design and local production, CLOTH’EL demonstrates a practical approach to keeping existing materials in use across the hospitality and design sectors.
