Description

ROCKWOOL makes insulation for construction projects. It has established a recycling programme for stone wool, the main item in its portfolio. The Rockcycle® programme is now available in 24 countries, and they aim to make it 30 by 2030.

It's a straightforward process: they take back stone wool material from construction, renovation and demolition sites and recycle it to make new stone wool products, reducing the amount of construction and demolition waste which ends up in landfills or incinerated.

Stone wool can be recycled over and over into new stone wool, without changing its mechanical and performance properties. The company's production design makes it possible to use both stone wool waste and materials that might otherwise be landfilled or downcycled. Stone wool production waste is looped back into production and low-value by-products are upcycled into stone wool insulation that makes buildings more comfortable and energy efficient.

ROCKWOOL also asked Circle Economy to develop a dashboard promoting circularity in their processes and reducing the amount of virgin materials.
