Recommendations of the German Council for Sustainable Development to the German Federal Government regarding the transformation to a circular economy.

The recommendations include the following: 

  • Adjusting objectives to strive for an absolute reduction in primary raw material consumption
  • Establishing a policy mix of incentives, support measures and regulation to achieve a steering effect
  • Anticipating processes of structural change and further developing social safeguarding instruments
  • Setting out standards and norms and avoiding distortion of competition
  • Seizing economic opportunities and supporting sound circular economy business models
  • Mainstreaming recyclability throughout product lifecycles.

How does digitalisation contribute to advancing circular procurement practices?

The ECESP Leadership Group on Circular Procurement organised the #EUCircularTalks webinar on 27 September at 10:00 – 12:00 CEST, offering valuable insights into global trends, practical tools, and real-world case studies. Participants had a chance to learn strategies to mitigate environmental and social impacts associated with ICT procurement and to implement sustainable procurement practices effectively.

The Circular Cities Declaration, managed by our Coordination Group member ICLEI Europe, is is a project designed to help accelerate the transition from a linear to a circular economy with a specific focus on cities.

They've issued eight topical webinars with key stakeholders and institutions - and all of them are available for you to listen to!

The Dutch company Corbion grows microalgae in closed fermentation tanks where they transform sustainable sugars into algae in a few days. The algae are then used to produce omega-3 DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). These fatty acids provide essential nutrients for humans and many animal diets.

The production system is fully circular.

The PREVENT Waste Alliance is currently looking for applications for the Innovate2PREVENT innovation contest. Innovate2PREVENT aims to inspire and mobilise creative minds from around the world to develop innovative circular solutions in the areas of

  1. reuse, refurbishment and repair of electrical and electronic equipment
  2. plastic waste prevention, and
  3. supporting circularity through digital, interoperable and data-driven solutions.

Interested parties can apply until 5 July 2024.

The EU grants for projects to reduce consumer food waste have been launched. The call for proposals is open to all interested stakeholders, with a deadline to apply by 25 September 2024.

The Single Market Programme grants are managed by the European Commission in collaboration with the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).

The aim of the call is to support stakeholders in their actions to prevent and reduce the amount of food waste generated at consumer level.

On 17 and 18 June FOLOU and WASTELESS projects will be hosting a two-day webinar Current developments in food Loss & waste reduction. The aim of the webinar will be to unveil the current developments in food loss and waste reduction to pave the way for a sustainable future.

The Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) has opened a Call for experts to provide personalised support and mentorship to cities and regions looking to advance the implementation of circular systemic solutions.
