Sustainable Estimatics is a carbon tracking tool,  intended to help the insurance industry manage new environmental, social and governance (ESG) regulations and become greener and less wasteful.

It empowers insurers to quantify and mitigate the carbon dioxide equivalent emissions associated with their entire car insurance claims process. As regards the circular dimension, it enables insurers to compare the environmental impact of repairing car parts versus replacing them.

The Dutch foundation Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling (Food Waste Free United) is organising the international conference 'Towards halving food waste in Europe'. This event will bring together representatives from European companies, public organisations, civil society and scientific organisations keen to halve food waste by 2030.

The report comprises detailed descriptions of 25 good practices in the field of sustainable food systems, identified by desk research organised by FOODRUS project partners in 2022-2023. They cover initiatives in 15 European countries and one in the USA.

While some initiatives act at local level, others have spread within the country or into neighbouring countries and sometimes throughout the world. They have been classified based on the actors that initiated them, specifically businesses, communities, non-profits and public administrations, and cover a wide range of measures such as teaching practices, food waste collection and donation activities, reuse of food waste or local food policies.

Each initiative has chapters on barriers, regulatory aspects, impact and area covered.

From its base in the northern Netherlands, JC-Electronics supplies new, refurbished and repaired industrial electronics. By giving used and defective devices a second life, the company contributes to the circular economy and helps customers reduce their carbon footprint.

The Circular Investment Readiness Network is a joint initiative by the Horizon Europe projects CircularInvest and DEFINITE-CCRI.

The initiative will help circular economy projects overcome the challenges related to development and investment readiness. It will bring local governments, investors, Project Development Assistance providers and external service providers together with CircularInvest and DEFINITE-CCRI project owners and SMEs to foster the exchange of expertise, pinpoint opportunities and generate momentum.

Basically, it will advance circular economy objectives by facilitating the development of financeable, high-impact, low-risk circular projects.

By registering, you will be part of the network mailing list and invited to all future information sessions.

Europe has changed fundamentally since the single market was launched.

The global demographic and economic landscape has shifted, the rules-based international order faces serious challenges, the EU pillars of free trade and openness are being called into question and the sectors covered by the single market need to be updated.

The single market therefore needs to be adapted to new requirements, including the imperative to embed circular economy principles. A new framework is required: it must protect the fundamental freedoms, based on a level playing field, while supporting the objective of establishing a dynamic and effective European industrial policy.

The report contains policy recommendations for the future of the single market, such as establishing a Circular Single Market.

In 2023, signatories of the Circular Cities Declaration were asked to report on their progress in transitioning towards a circular economy.

54 cities and regions from all over Europe contributed to this Progress Report which provides an overview of how the circular economy is being implemented by cities, the challenges they are facing, and how they are showing the way forward.

It also sheds light on measuring and reporting progress, as what isn’t measured cannot be effectively managed, and regenerating nature, a central yet often overlooked principle of the circular economy.

This Progress Report will bring valuable insight for decision makers at every level of government. To cities, it will provide inspiration, and to governments or to the EU, it will hopefully inform policies.
