A comprehensive circular economy approach is the only solution that can match the scale of the global textile waste problem.

This report, written for policymakers, feeds into the global debate on textile waste and pollution. It focuses on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policies, stipulating mandatory, fee-based schemes. These are a crucial policy tool to ensure discarded textiles are collected and put back in circulation at scale, rather than being incinerated or landfilled.

The data modelling and analytics used focus on selected countries (including Chile, EU Member States, Ghana, India, Kenya, Tunisia and the USA), chosen due to the significant role they play in the trade of used textiles, as well as the existence or ongoing development of EPR policy.

The FURN360 project developed a training course intended to familiarise furniture sector professionals with the transition to a circular economy model. It is a free-of-charge set of online modules offering 80 hours of training to understand the shift needed in the furniture industry to engage in a circular economy. The goal is to make the sector more sustainable and competitive.

The Horizon Europe FISSAC project aimed to develop and demonstrate a new paradigm built on an innovative industrial symbiosis model. This model was intended to deliver a zero waste approach in the resource-intensive industries of the construction value chain.

The CircE Project (European regions toward Circular Economy) was an Interreg Europe project implemented during the 2014-2020 financing period. It aimed to reinforce the take-up of the circular economy in Europe.

Scope

This platform provides information and updates on two key projects:

CIRCWASTE ran from 2016 to 2023, and aimed to promote the efficient use of material flows, waste prevention and new waste and resource management concepts.

PlastLIFE is an ongoing project (2022 to December 2029), aiming to promote a sustainable circular economy for plastics.

The Green Deal ARV project aims to create climate positive circular communities in Europe and increase the building renovation rate.

The International Center for Resources and Innovation for Sustainable Development (CIRIDD in French) was set up in 2005. It aims to contribute to the emergence of new societal models which are more respectful of all living beings, future generations and the planet

It promotes sustainable development, based on cooperation within organisations, regions and sectors, and its projects vary from local to international. It assists businesses, regions and industries as they shift to greener, more circular business models and strategies, helping them get to grips with the various impacts of their activities and promoting the product-as-a-service model.

CIRIDD produces French-language brochures and web series and was instrumental in setting up the eclaira and Economiecirculaire.org platforms.
