A team of researchers from the research centre CIEPQPF and the CFE of the University of Coimbra has developed an innovative application for recovered waste from walnut fruit: compounds with a “nematocidal” effect have been extracted that can control plant-parasitic nematodes affecting a wide range of species.
SEAclic is a project developed by the German company Storopack, which has created a packaging technology suitable for temperature-sensitive food products, such as fish. The bio-based version of the Storopack SEAclic Box is made from a new, compostable plastic.
Friesland, a province in the north of the Netherlands, has a strong cultural identity, its own language, an economy mostly devoted to agriculture and 20 000 companies - 99% of them SMEs. The province faces economic and demographic challenges but is becoming one of the best examples of a successful transition towards a circular economy. It aims to be the most circular EU region by 2025.

The Circular Economy Platform was officially established in November 2018 in Hungary as an initiative of the Business Council for Sustainable Development in Hungary (BCSDH), the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology. So far, 101 companies and organisations have joined it.
The platform aims to accelerate the transition to a circular economy model by sharing knowledge and creating joint projects, with the involvement of businesses, government and science.

Soeco Kontorsmöbler is a Swedish company that recycles and refurbishes office furniture. Its goal is to take furniture which would most likely be thrown away and transform it into an item that either looks like or is new.
SEA2SEE, based in Catalonia, designs and produces optical frames and sunglasses in Italy, as well as watches in Switzerland, entirely made from recycled marine plastic collected by fishermen in Spain, France and West Africa.
The Danube Goes Circular is a platform set up under the Interreg MOVECO project which ran from December 2016 to August 2019. The platform aims to promote awareness of and engagement in the circular economy, and involves sixteen partners from the ten Danube countries.
There is a marketplace for reusable materials, designed to match up supply and demand for waste and reusable materials and products meet in order to foster eco-innovation in the Danube region.
The platform provides information on how to extend a product’s useful lifecycle as well as on legal requirements and corporate good practices linked to the promotion of the circular economy. The toolbox section includes fact sheets for SMEs.
